Meghalaya - The Abode of Clouds

This is an ideal Meghalaya itinerary comprising the best of all touristy stuff and the points on the checklist of every traveller's diary. You get to go on beautiful treks, visit the world famous living root bridges, go on a boat ride in the clear waters of Dawki and see the canyons of the North East.

The brief itinerary for the 4 day tour is as below

Day 1

Pick up from Guwahati Airport/Train Station and transfer to Cherrapunji. Sightseeing on the way. Halt at Laitlum Grand Canyon, famous as a movie location for Rock On 2. More sightseeing, beautiful valleys, mountains and waterfalls. Check-in at the hotel/resort at Sohra for the night and enjoy a nice Bonfire under the starry skies.

Day 2

Choose between a beautiful trek or some sightseeing. Want to do both? We got you covered!! See the end section for details.

TREK:

After breakfast, leave for Tyrna and trek to the Double-decker Living Root Bridges at Nongriat. The trek is moderately difficult and would take around 4 hours. After lunch, go for a stroll down to the river and enjoy the sunset.

SIGHTSEEING:

 After breakfast, visit Dain- Thlen Falls. Head to India's tallest plunge waterfall, Nohkalikai, visit other beautiful waterfalls and some spectacular caves.

Stay in Sohra for the night.

  • Passport details (Name, Number, Expiry Date and Country of Issue) is required at the time of booking for International tourists.

  • Carry a photocopy of all your documents and ID proof.

  • Bonfires will be provided only in winter.

  • If you prefer to do both the trek and sightseeing options set for Day 2, we could increase the trip duration to a 5 Day, 4 Night trip with Day 2 for the trek and Day 3 for sightseeing at Cherrapunji. The revised package rates for the 5 days, 4 nights trip would then be

Itinerary

Day 3

After an early breakfast, leave for Dawki. The route to Dawki is very scenic, once there, enjoy a boat ride in the clear waters of the Umngot river with Bangladesh just on the other side of the river. Leave for Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia and also home to Living Root Bridges and halt for lunch. Check-in at a home-stay and then head to visit the root bridges and some local sight seeing. Stay at Mawlynnong for the night.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, leave for Guwahati via Jowai. This beautiful and scenic route is a little over 250km long, making it best for a long drive. Break for lunch at Jowai before continuing to Guwahati. This total journey will be 8-9 hours long. Go home with amazing memories and awesome photos to make your friends back home jealous :)
